Blog Exposes FinishLine.com’s Nonsensical Shipping

finish-line-shipping-example1.jpgCrunchGear posted this “salute to FinishLine.com’s sustainable shipping” after receiving a pair of running shoes (in a 12″ x 7″ x 4″ shoebox) inside of an enormous box, 19″ x 19″ x 19″ box.

The box did not contain any padding, air bubbles, or other type of filler.

On Earth Day this year, blog posts on The Consumerist and Gizmodo that criticized Dell’s  shipping choices prompted the company to change its policy and use envelopes or smaller boxes for items like flash drives.

Dell recently announced plans to reduce desktop and laptop packaging materials by about 10 percent worldwide, increase sustainable content in cushioning and corrugate packaging by 40 percent and ensure that 75 percent of packaging components are curbside recyclable by 2012.
