HKS Launches Green Architecture Design Group

hks.jpgHKS Inc., an architecture firm based in Dallas, has launched a three-person team to promote eco-friendly design with its staff and clients. Kirk Teske was named chief sustainability officer and will lead the team, the Dallas Morning News reports.

The firm aims to design carbon-neutral buildings by 2030 and is aiming to offer energy modeling services, where the firm suggests ways to reduce energy costs of a new or existing building. Teske tells his clients that any extra expense to make a building 30 percent to 50 percent more efficient than building code requirements can be recouped in four to seven years.

HKS is also aiming to increase the percentage of HKS’ global professionals that are certified under the LEED program to 40 percent from 20 percent today.

In June, groups from the U.S. and Italy launched Elogico, a sustainable design initiative set on raising environmental consciousness in the design of products and buildings.
