Fujitsu to Release “Zero Power Standby” PC

Fujitsu Siemens has announced plans for their greenest PC yet, reports Network World. The Esprimo Green PC line will use zero-watts in standby mode. The line is set for official launch at the European CeBIT show in March, and the company is keeping quiet for now about how its patented technology works.

New European regulations went into effect this year requiring office and home computers to use less than 1 watt on standby power by 2010, and Fujitsu states that 90% of its professional PC’s are already below 0.5 watts, which will be required by 2013.

The new PCs are intended to be paired with the zero-watt monitor the company unveiled last year, and work on a similar technology. The technical details of how exactly the computers will draw zero power while sleeping and still be able to wake up, have not been released. Nor has the company said how long it will take the new PCs to power up from zero, or how much energy they will use in full power mode. The price is still a mystery as well, though details on all of these are expected at the official launch in March.

What is certain is that Fujitsu Siemens is looking to get ahead of its rivals in the new low-power regulatory climate coming to the EU.
