American Public Media has put together a list of its “favorite greenwashes of 2008.”
Here’s a quick look:
Last April, the company decided to disclose the carbon footprint of its products and joined the Carbon Disclosure Project Supply Chain Leadership Collaboration. But American Public Media wonders if shipping bottled water half way across the world is really green.

Executives from General Motors, Ford and Chrysler were criticized over the expense of their travel to Washington D.C. to seek a $34 billion bailout for the auto industry. On their second trip. the execs greened their travel habits and arrived in hybrid cars.
American Public Media says clean coal is the “ultimate oxymoron” and that Carbon Capture and Sequestration is a dream at this point. EL reported last year that coal industry magnates are said to have spent between $35 million and $45 million on advertising in 2008 pitching “clean coal” as a new environmentally friendly fuel.
Shell Criticized For Greenwashing
The company was accused of manipulating an independent environmental audit by AEA Technology to determine whether an oil and gas project would receive bank funding.
Dell Executives criticized Apple’s new green MacBook ads and said that Apple hasn’t stated any goals – just made claims that Dell says are not accurate.
