LG Launches ‘Life’s Good When it’s Green’

lg.jpgLG Electronics launched its “Life’s Good When it’s Green” initiative, which focuses on sustainability through product design, reduction of hazardous materials, and responsible e-waste recycling.

In manufacturing, LG aims to reduce its GHG emissions by 150 kilotons per year by 2020. The company plans to cut the lifetime GHG emissions of its products to 30 megatons by 2020.

As part of the new initiative, the Korean electronics maker has designed its 2009 HDTVs to achieve Energy Star 3.0 rating. LG’s 2009 HDTVs are expected to be 30 percent more efficient than non-qualified models, it said. At the Consumer Electronics Show this month, LG unveiled a new 32-inch TV, which uses more than 50 percent less power than the average 32-inch LCD TV.

LG also teamed up with Waste Management and designated eCycling Centers in all 50 states where consumers electronics will be recycled as part of LG’s free Electronics Recycling Program.

In October 2007, Packaging Magazine gave LG the Packaging Evolution Award for both conserving resources and facilitating the re-use and recycling of used packaging materials.
