Spirits-Maker Diageo Improves California Bottling Facility

diageo.jpgTo cut its carbon footprint and annual operating costs at its bottling facility in Menlo Park, California, spirits-maker Diageo has implemented a new energy-saving initiative that involves converting to energy-efficient lighting and installing timed lighting control panels throughout the plant.

The improvements will save 200,000 kilowatts per year and prevent about 460,000 pounds of CO2 from being emitted into the air – with a total energy cost savings of about $60,000 per year, the company said.

The Menlo Park facility will convert warehouse storage facility lights to more efficient fluorescent fixtures and improve energy management systems, such as heating, ventilation and air-conditioning. Diageo will also identify reduction opportunities in continuously running systems that are part of the plant’s daily operations.

Last year Diageo – maker of Bailey’s, Tanqueray, and J&B whiskey – said it planned to build a bioenergy facility at Scotland’s largest distillery and signed a formal partnership agreement with energy management company Dalkia to create the new facility for about $120 million.
