Arby’s To Open ‘Green’ Restaurant Mid-April

arbysArby’s is building its first green restaurant in Magnolia, Texas. The restaurant, which is expected to open in mid-April, will include energy and water conservation features and is currently seeking LEED certification, QSRWeb.com reports.

At least 35 percent of the power used for the building will come from renewable sources. Other green features in the restaurant include Energy Star-certified kitchen equipment, LED lighting, low-flow toilets, an energy efficient HVAC system and low-emitting materials.

The building is also installing a thermoplastic membrane roof to help reduce the heat island effect. The parking lot will feature preferred parking for fuel-efficient vehicles and native drought tolerant landscaping will also be planted.

In 2007, Arby’s installed solar water heaters at 33 locations.
