Carl’s Jr. Opens Green Fast-Food Joint

carlsjrgreenCarl’s Jr. has opened a green flagship restaurant in Carpinteria, Calif. The restaurant will measure  energy efficiency and be evaluated for potential company-wide implementation.

The new restaurant includes green features like solar reflective roofing, smart irrigation system, energy management system and uses Energy Star rated equipment.

In addition, the restaurant has installed LED lights in its parking lot and a catalyst which converts charbroiler particulate into CO2. The facility was constructed with low-emitting material including: adhesives and sealants, paints and coatings, floor systems, composite wood and laminate adhesives

Carl’s Jr. already has some company-wide green initiatives such as e-billing, using recycled material for packaging as well as recycling cooking oil for alternative fuel and other uses.

Other fast food restaurants such as Chipotle, Dunkin’ Donuts and McDonald’s are also featuring green initiatives in their restaurants. Some have even received LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.
