Disneyland Powers Steam Trains With Recycled Cooking Oil

disneyland_resort.jpgDisneyland Resort is now using recycled cooking oil to power its Disneyland Railroad steam trains, eTurboNews reports.

“Now the oil used to cook french fries and other foods is processed to power our Disneyland Railroad and our Mark Twain Riverboat. This move allows the resort to save approximately 200,000 gallons of petroleum diesel per year,” said Frank Dela vara, Disneyland Resort’s director of environmental affairs and conservation.

The resort began using a soy-based biodiesel in April 2007, but scrapped the effort in 2008 amid storage problems, reported United Press International (via Times of the Internet).

In 2007, Disneyland said it has made a number of green changes that has saved the park $60 million over the past 10 years.
