Ford Plans Commercial Battery Electric Vehicle For 2010

ford_transit_connectFord announced plans to market a pure battery electric-powered commercial vehicle in 2010. The vehicle is based on Ford’s Transit Connect global commercial vehicle platform.

The company is partnering with Smith Electric Vehicles, a battery electric commercial vehicle upfitter, to bring the vehicle to market in North America.

Ford says it is planning to introduce a new battery electric small car in 2011. The next-generation hybrid vehicles are expected to be introduced in 2012, then plug-in hybrid versions are expected to be introduced in 2012.

In order to encourage adoption of hybrid vehicles, customers that bought or placed orders for Ford’s new 2010 hybrid vehicles made by March 31 will qualify for a $3,400 credit on their 2009 tax returns.
