Green Computing Dollars In the Stimulus Package

dollarsTwo areas of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act may yield some green computing dollars: $4.5 billion for renovation and repairs to General Services Administration federal buildings and $6.3 billion to help state and local governments make energy efficient and carbon reduction investments, writes Kevin Ferguson at InformationWeek.

The first of these, the $4.5 billion, includes $4 million for the Office of Federal High-Performance Green Buildings, authorized in the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007. Section 434 of the act requires, among other things, that federal agencies employ the most energy efficient designs, systems, equipment and controls that are life-cycle cost effective when replacing, renovating or expanding space or equipment.

The stimulus package contains about $50 billion for the energy sector.
