IBM launches ‘Strategic Carbon Management’ Program

IBM is launching a new Strategic Carbon Management program which it says will help clients make their carbon footprints “smarter” and “smaller.”

The new service is billed as a tool that will help clients analyze their CO2 emissions and energy use at scales ranging from a single department to a worldwide operation. It considers a wide range of business operations including travel, transportation systems, datacenters and IT systems, manufacturing and distribution centers, office facilities, retail space, and R&D sites.

The system assesses a company’s current emissions, identifies gaps and sets improvement goals. It then allows users to balance and prioritize issues including costs, risks and regulation, shareholder needs and customer demand. This holistic approach will allow clients to monitor and regulate their energy use and CO2 emissions on an ongoing basis.

The new service is the latest in a slew of CSR and environmental services from IBM. EL has covered IBM’s Environmental Validation Service, it’s Green Sigma reporting to help manage energy and water, and its CSR Reporting services.
