J. Lohr Unveils Solar Power System

j_lohr_vineyards_and_winesJ. Lohr Vineyards & Wines has unveiled a 756-kilowatt solar photovoltaic solar system at its Paso Robles operations. The 3-acre solar system, which is being touted as the largest solar tracking array in the wine industry, is expected to offset 75 percent of the winery’s energy use.

Conergy designed and installed more than 4,000 photovoltaic modules at the winery. The solar system is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by almost 30,000 tons over 25 years.

Wineries across the nation have been taking a stab at reducing their carbon footprint. Some are tapping the sun for energy, while others are shipping wines in lighter bottles. Clif Family Winery adds $0.25 per bottle to help offset CO2 emissions generated by the packaging and shipment of orders.
