Pfizer’s Largest Plant Saves 10% on Energy

pfizer1Pfizer’s largest manufacturing facility is also the company’s most energy-efficient, reports mlive.com. On a recent tour of the Michigan facility, Pfizer officials highlighted the ways they have cut energy bills 10% despite rising energy costs.

Pfizer has spent tens of millions of dollars over the last several years in an effort to keep the plant competitive by reducing energy. Using high-efficiency lighting reduced 2008 electricity costs by $1 million. The company also invested in a new boiler system. The 2,000 acre plant, with 2700 employees, is now Pfizer’s cheapest plant to operate on a dollar-per-kilowatt-hour basis, the company reports.

EL has reported on Pfizer’s sustainability efforts, and their founding membership in the Sustainable Business Forum.
