Clean Energy Corps Urged for Job Creation

The newly proposed Clean Energy Corps would merge job creation, service and training to combat global warming.

More than 80 civic, labor, environmental and policy organizations endorsed the proposal for a Clean Energy Corps, which would  apply energy-efficient measures to over 15 million existing buildings – from adding insulation to replacing inefficient boiler, according to a press release.

The Clean Energy Corps was proposed by the Clean Energy Corps Working Group, which includes representatives of the Center for Economic and Policy Research, Apollo Alliance, Center for American Progress Action Fund, Corps Network, Center on Wisconsin Strategy, Energy Action Coalition, Green For All, Innovations in Civic Participation and 1Sky.

Retrofitting buildings to be more green would create more than 600,000 jobs, the release said.

The corps would receive funding through programs such as the Department of Energy, Department of Labor and Corporation for National and Community Service, among others,  the release said.
