Carbon Motors Corp., which aims to manufacture high-performance, fuel-efficient vehicles for law enforcement and other government agencies, is seeking a government hand-out to help it do so.

Carbon Motors is lobbying the South Carolina cities of Greenville and Spartanburg to put together a package to lure the vehicle manufacturer, according to Charleston Regional Business Journal. Carbon Motors also is considering its home state of Georgia, as well as Indiana and Michigan, according to the article.

Wherever it lands, the $350 million plant would produce up to 75,000 cars a year and employ up to 1,300 people, according to the article, with production slated to start in 2012. The company plans to finalize its location this summer.

Carbon Motors says the vehicle would deliver 40 percent more fuel efficiency over models currently used by law enforcement.
