Dole Food Joins Water Footprint Network

dole-building2To address concerns about its water use, Dole Food Co. has joined the Water Footprint Network, a global group that promotes the sustainable, fair and efficient use of fresh water resources.

A company’s water footprint is defined as the total amount of water that goes into producing its products.

PepsiCo, Coca-Cola and Nestle, among others, are other partners in the Water Footprint Network. Click here for a full list.

Many of Dole’s growing operations and packing houses use drip irrigation and water recycling systems to reduce the amount of water used, Sylvain Cuperlier, Vice President, Director of Worldwide Corporate Social Responsibility at Dole, said in a press release.

Dole had global revenues of $7.6 billion in 2008. Here are some details about Dole’s CSR programs.

Dole has been recognized for its efforts to plant trees in tropical areas and its lower-intensity pineapple production methods.

Recently, Dole created a promotion around its Choice Greens packaging, which is made from recycled materials.
