Saving Money, Not Environment, the Biggest Reason to Reduce Electricity

greenpulse-electricityWhen asked what was the most important reason to reduce electricity consumption, more than 72 percent of the public said they would do so to reduce bills or control costs as the primary reason.

Just 26 percent of consumers said they would do so with a primary goal of lessening their impact on the environment, according to new research from the Shelton Group.

The research, GreenLivingPulse 2009, took into account 1,007 consumers who at least occasionally buy green products, according to a press release.

When queried about their general knowledge of coal-fired electricity generation, nearly 40 percent erroneously believe that electricity generation harms the ozone layer. Another 12 percent said that electricity generation is safe and does not harm the environment, as illustrated below.
