TerraCycle, 3M Reusing Scotch Tape Dispensers

scotchTerraCycle is working with 3M to convince consumers to save empty Scotch tape dispensers and cores and collect them, to save the dispensers from being sent to landfills.

TerraCycle has started a Scotch Tape Brigade to motivate the public to save the dispensers. For every dispenser collected, two cents will be donated to a charity chosen by each brigade.

As of Sept. 16, a total of 467 groups or individuals had formed brigades.

After saving 50 dispensers, the groups will send the batch to TerraCycle, which will send the dispensers back to 3M to be refilled and resold.

  1. This is a really great idea. Implementing the dispenser re-use will not only cut down on waste, but charities will be benefiting as well. It sounds like a win-win situation.

  2. I pass on this one. I’d rather see them use a pressed paper ring–renewable source, recyclable product. We’d just toss it into our local cardboard recycle bins.
