News Corp. Taps Hara for Energy Efficiency, Environmental Management

newscorporation1News Corp. – owner of Fox News, the Wall Street Journal and numerous other media properties – is adding software to help manage its environmental impact and energy use.

News Corp. is using software from Hara Environmental and Energy Management to begin collecting energy and emissions information from its hundred-plus facilities worldwide, according to a press release.

News Corp. expects the software to help it report emissions against multiple global protocols and manage environmental information.

The company also aims to identify cost savings opportunities, while tracking progress and sharing best practices across companies in its eight divisions.

“We truly believe that what you can measure, you can manage,” said Vijay Sudan, manager of Energy Initiatives at News Corp.

Sudan said News Corp. wants to go “far beyond carbon accounting” and move into energy reduction strategies that help reduce carbon emissions.

In 2007, News Corp. owner Rupert Murdoch began the move to address carbon emissions in his properties, saying he aimed to make his properties carbon neutral by 2010.
