From New York City to Paris, cities are planning to ring in the New Year using energy efficient LED lighting.
In New York City, the Times Square ball drop and its 32,256 LED lights will be accompanied by nearly 300 crystals etched with angel wings to signify this year’s them of “let there be courage,” reports elightbulbs.
With the ball’s LEDs and crystals, it can produce more than 16 million colors and billions of patterns, reports FloridaToday.
The ball was designed by Waterford and Phillips, and will use less energy than any previous New Year’s ball dropped at Times Square, according to the article.
Not only is the ball lit by LEDs, but NYC partygoers who can’t crowd into Times Square will be able to watch the ball drop on any of seven giant LED screens located throughout the city.
In Paris, France, the Eiffel Tower will be lit up by more than 400 LED spotlights, reports AFP.
The spotlights are connected by 1.5 miles of cable, and the display cost $560,000 to put together.
