Firm Adds New Mexico’s Largest Private Solar System

constNew Mexico construction and paving firm Constructors is converting its two Carlsbad adminstrative offices to solar power.

At about 1,300 square feet, it is the largest solar installation by a private company in the state, said Brendan Miller, Green Economy Manager for the New Mexico Economic Development Department.

The new system will generate about 8,300 kilowatt hours a month, according to a press release. It relies on 216 interconnected 210-Watt solar panels.

With the system, on a good sunny day the offices will be able to operate off the grid, including HVAC, lighting, and power for computers, fax machines, copiers and other office equipment.

The solar panels were made by Sanyo, with Solar Smart Living completing the installation.

Constructors has gone to other lengths to be responsible to the environment. The firm’s asphalt products use up to 35 percent recycled product. The company also recycles batteries from its vehicles.
