LED Retrofit Saves Hyatt Regency $131K/Year at Grand Cypress Resort

Grand Cypress Lobby - LRP38An energy efficient lighting retrofit at the Grand Cypress Resort is expected to generate $131,659 in first year savings, said Tommy Mydlo, lighting specialist for Regency Lighting, the consultant on the project.

The LED lighting retrofit is expected to pay for itself in only nine months of operation and yield cumulative savings of more than $500,000 by the fourth year of operation, Mydlo said.

The project at the Hyatt Regency-owned resort was part of a multimillion dollar renovation.

In all, 636 LR6 downlights were used in the hallway remodel, replacing 800 fixtures, and 35 LRP-38s were used in the 10,000 square foot lobby.

The LR6 fixtures, which use 10.5 watts of electricity, boast a nearly 90 percent energy savings over the two 50-watt halogen bulbs they replaced, according to a press release.

The project used Cree bulbs.
