Northrop Grumman Tackles Sustainability in Mississippi Facilities

grummanNorthrop Grumman is saving 95,000 kilowatt hours of electricity a year after a lighting retrofit, part of the firm’s participation in the enHance program from the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality.

Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding’s yards in Pascagoula and Gulfport, as well as the Ocean Springs-based Northrop Grumman Electronic Systems are taking part in the program at the steward level, reports GulfLive.

The enHance program has associate, steward and leader levels. Baxter International, Haworth and International Paper are involved at the leader level.

For its part, Northrop Grumman has created an environmental policy, is maintaining an environmental management plan, is organizing two voluntary projects that enhance the environment and is conducting a self-audit of its environmental impact.

The company has a recycling program, and it tracks its greenhouse gas emissions.

The firm is in the midst of building out a program to measure the reduction of its carbon footprint, said Northrop Grumman spokesman Bill Glenn.

The aforementioned lighting retrofit involve swapping out 1,200 incandescent lamps with 20-watt fluorescent bulbs.
