Oracle has simplified environmental reporting by pre-integrating greenhouse gas (GHG) accounting software from Ndevr with Oracle’s E-Business Suite and Oracle’s JD Edwards EnterpriseOne financial applications. In other news, Oracle’s Primavera P6 Enterprise Project Portfolio Management software helped the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) reduce the environmental impact of a large bridge reconstruction project.
Ndevr’s GHG accounting software can be used to meet international mandatory and voluntary environmental reporting schemes, such as Australia’s National Greenhouse Energy Reporting (NGER) legislation, and the GHG Protocol.
Oracle’s financial applications now support data capture capabilities for gas, electricity or fuel consumption, as examples, and enable the conversion of these measurements into GHG metrics. The Oracle Business Intelligence Suite Enterprise Edition Plus provides the reporting layer that analyzes and presents the data in a set of pre-built, but extensible dashboards.
The pre-integrated solution can also be used to track additional environmental metrics such as waste and water consumption and complies with standards published by the World Resources Institute and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development.
Oracle and Ndevr’s partnership could mark a shift in the business environment toward integrating environmental compliance reporting with core business strategies. A key finding from a recent Ernst & Young report indicates that companies should consider carbon emissions requirements as part of their businesses and financial management strategies to reduce their business risks.
Oracle’s software solutions also can help customers minimize the environmental impact of their construction projects with Oracle’s Primavera P6 Enterprise Project Portfolio Management software.
As an example, UDOT reduced the construction time and pollution, as well as nearly eliminated all traffic congestion at a large bridge reconstruction project in Salt Lake City by implementing Oracle’s project management software.
By being able to review various construction options using Primavera P6 before construction started on the I-80 project, UDOT was able to reduce overall construction time from three to two years, cut contractor CO2 emissions by more than 20,000 tons and emissions due to congestion by more than 100,000 tons, and improve traffic flow through the project.
It also lowered impact costs to drivers by more than $10 million and improved public acceptance of the project due to UDOT’s efforts to minimize impacts.
