Westwood Gateway Towers in Los Angeles is saving more than $160,000 annually, or 35 percent per year, in energy costs, thanks to a retrofit of its lighting systems. The 820,00-sq.-ft. high rise building, owned by Irvine Company, also is Energy Star labeled.
ReGreen, which installed Westwood Gateway’s new system, says the primary goal of every energy reduction project is to measurably reduce the kilowatt-hours (KWh) and kilowatt (KW) demand without reducing the quality of light. In addition to the cost savings by replacing the existing light fixtures with T8 fluorescent technology, the building also cuts CO2 emissions by nearly 20 million pounds, according to ReGreen.
Expected payback with ReGreen solutions is two years or less.
ReGreen also helped Irvine Company qualify for rebates from the LADWP’s CLEO Program that helped subsidize more than 60 percent of the cost for upgrades.
The city of Los Angeles is home to the nation’s largest lighting retrofit program, as of last year, spending $57 million to retrofit 140,000 streetlights with LED bulbs.
In addition to energy cost savings, other benefits include reduced maintenance costs, reduced air pollution, increased employee productivity and safety, and tax advantages of up to $0.60/sq. ft., says ReGreen.
