Norland Chooses CloudApps for Carbon Management

Norland, a British facilities services provider, announced it has chosen CloudApps for its carbon management software, according to a company press release.

Norland said it will use CloudApps Carbon to generate energy savings and monitor  carbon emissions for its customers. The company said it had already deployed the solution at a large British technology client.

According to a company profile, Norland provides support for multiple business activities, including catering, cleaning, security, waste management, engineering works, and maintenance, with customers including BP, Universal Music, and The British National Gallery.

Norland said it selected the CloudApps solution in order to add an energy management component to its offering. According to the press release, energy management is a significant component of facility cost and is subject to complex regulation, The company said the new software will also help clients become more transparent in their regulatory compliance efforts.

CloudApps recently launched the Summer ’10 version of its Carbon solution. According to the company, the new version delivers real-time updates on a company’s emissions sources, carbon footprint, disclosures and emission reduction programs.

Several companies have announced contracts with software providers to track their carbon emissions, including Associated Packaging Technologies, PG&E, and Hasbro, as companies grow increasingly aware that emissions reductions can increasingly drive cost savings.

Meanwhile, new regulations requiring more businesses to track their carbon emissions are appearing on the horizon, with the potential to vastly increase the size of the sector. Both the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) and the UK accounting organization are considering carbon accounting mandates, while the U.S. General Services Administration is considering new rules that would give preferential treatment to companies that track emissions.
