Greenpeace says that the group in charge of eco-labels for fisheries is not up to snuff. Richard Page, a Greenpeace oceans campaigner, said decisions by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) to certify some fisheries “seriously undermines” the group’s credibility, reports The Guardian.

The MSC labeling system is designed to inform consumers about which species of fish are safely managed, and can be purchased in good conscience. Greenpeace, however, says the MSC is “duping” consumers by giving its eco-label to fisheries where stocks are tumbling, noting the MSC label to the Ross Sea Antarctic toothfish fishery, a species that scientists are still researching.

Greenpeace also questions fishing practices of krill in the Antarctic, tuna and swordfish off the US coast, pollock in the Eastern Bering Sea, and Pacific hake.
