Green Fleet Briefing: Sheraton, IEEE, Detroit Edison

The Sheraton Atlanta has become the first hotel in the city to install charging stations for electric vehicles.

The four stations, located at the front of the 763-room hotel, occupy standard parking spaces. Aside from regular parking charges, there are no additional fees for using the first-come, first-served EV stations. The spots are available for the duration of the charge, at which point the guest will yield the space for the next EV to charge.

Electric utility Detroit Edison has introduced four Ford Transit Connect Electric vehicles (pictured) into its fleet. The vehicles will be used by Detroit Edison field crews performing repair and maintenance and operations to electrical lines and other equipment on the distribution system, according to the electric company.

The vehicle has a target range of around 50 to 80 miles per full charge, and is rechargeable using either 240-volt or standard 120-volt outlets, Ford says.

Electrics manufacturer Leviton has installed an electric vehicle charging station at the IEEE operations center in Piscataway, N.J. The station is one of the first commercial electric vehicle charging stations in central New Jersey, according to Leviton.

IEEE employees can use the Leviton Evr-Green Level 2 Commercial Charging Station for free while at work.
