Evergreen Solar Inc., a manufacturer of silicon wafer solar power products, today announced that it had filed for bankruptcy and will be reorganizing its structure. The company will reduce its United States and European workforce by about 65 people, and suspend operations at its Midland, Mich., filament facility.

Solar Roadways, a company that specializes in solar panels that can be driven on, has received federal money to finance a solar parking lot, reports The Spokesman-Review. The lot, funded by a $750,000 research contract from the Federal Highway Administration, will be installed outside the company’s Sandpoint, Idaho, laboratory. Each of Solar Roadways’ 12-foot-square panels (pictured) can produce about 7.6 kWh per day. Around four such panels could supply all the electricity needs of a typical household.

Photovoltaic array developer SPI Solar will serve as the engineering, procurement and construction contractor for a 9.7 MW fixed-ground-mount solar facility that will provide electricity for an unnamed, international pharmaceutical company. KDC Solar LLC awarded the contract for the facility, which will be owned by a KDC subsidiary, and will be built at the New Jersey corporate headquarters of one of the pharma company’s subsidiaries.
