Diamond Jo Casino Bets on LED Lighting

Diamond Jo Casino, a gambling establishment in Dubuque, Iowa has installed Cree Inc.
energy-efficient LED lighting.

The casino upgraded its existing lighting to Cree’s LRP-38 LED spotlights (pictured) throughout the 188,000-square-foot entertainment facility.

Some 750 of the casinos existing incandescent down lights were replaced with the LED bulb, which are designed to last 35,000-50,000 hours.

Diamond Jo Casino anticipates the extended life of the bulbs will help reduce maintenance costs by nearly $23,000 a year.

In Eugene, Ore., grocery chain Market of Choice is currently installing a range of energy efficiency measures, including LED lighting.

LED bulbs will replace fluorescent light bulbs in the eight-store chain’s reach-in freezers and coolers. Grocery sections at stores are also being retrofitted with drop-in LED bulbs.

Market of Choice stores also enjoy the energy saving benefits of “air curtains” by the front and back doors. By keeping inside air in and exterior air out these non-turbulent stream of air are 60 percent more effective in environmental separation performance than conventional automatic two-door vestibules, the company says.

In June, grocery chain Stop & Shop’s owner Ahold USA announced plans to deploy EnerNOC’s EfficiencySMART Insight platform to reduce energy usage and spending across 630 stores.

The platform allows the company to compare usage across stores and share best practices.
