Kimberly-Clark Products Gains FSC, EcoLogo Certification

Kimberly-Clark Professional has announced that the “broad majority” of its tissue and towel products now boast Forest Stewardship Council certification, and two of the company’s brands now carry the EcoLogo mark.

An FSC mark ensures that forest products come from sources that are managed with consideration for people, wildlife and the environment, Kimberly-Clark says.

Kimberly Clarke products Kleenex and Scott are now certified by EcoLogo.

The EcoLogo mark is awarded to products that demonstrate significantly reduced environmental impact among five key life-cycle based criteria: resource consumption; energy consumption; wastewater quality; aquatic toxicity and solid waste, the company said.

Over the past year, 14 major U.S. companies have moved to distance themselves from eco-label Sustainable Forestry Initiative, with many moving towards FSC-labeled products instead.

The companies, that include AT&T, Comcast and Office Depot, made moves away from SFI after non-profit group ForestEthics accused the label of “greenwashing.”
