Crowne Plaza Times Square Manhattan is now using Telkonet’s cloud-based EcoSmart energy management platform.

The energy management system, installed by PAC Consultants, gives the hotel independent remote management of each room’s HVAC system. It is expected to reduce overall electricity and steam consumption by approximately 25 percent in unoccupied rooms.

Atlanta Marriott Marquis (pictured) has installed a range of energy management tools. Improvements include a door switch and a motion detecting thermostat in each of the hotel’s 1,569 guest rooms, which are tied into the central energy management system server and should ensure the room is not being heated unnecessarily when empty.

The hotel has also installed smart Melink exhaust fans in the kitchen, new steam traps in its boiler and occupancy sensors in meeting rooms and in staff areas.

Hilton Worldwide is collaborating with recycling nonprofit the Global Soap Project to collect, reprocesses and remold used soap bars from Hilton hotels and redistribute them to populations in developing countries vulnerable to hygiene-related disease.

In its first year of the partnership, Hilton Worldwide expects the investment to result in the donation of more than 1 million 4-ounce bars of soap to people in need.
