Standards & Compliance Briefing: Compliance Survey Results, Bentley ISO 50001, Printing Cartridge Standard

The results are in from a survey of senior executives at more than 200 global process industry companies. According to the poll conducted by CSC and Chemical Week Magazine, regulatory compliance makes up the majority of sustainability expenditures, followed by energy management. ISO 50001 certification was ranked “most important” by executives, while new REACH requirements make companies fearful they will not be able to meet all regulations. The Australian magazine FEN reported the results.

The Bentley Motors headquarters in the United Kingdom has become the first automotive plant in the country to receive ISO 50001 certification, even though production has increased ten-fold since 2002, Works Management reported. Lloyds Register Quality Assurance performed audits and accredited the plant.

UL Environment announced on Wednesday that it has revised the standard for sustainability for printing cartridges, republishing the former Ecologo standard. For the first time, the standard can be applied to both original toner cartridges and refurbished cartridges and restricts heavy metals and VOCs.

LG Electronics has received LEED Gold Certification for its complex in the Jebel Ali Free Zone in Dubai, AME Info reported. The certification is the first for an industrial complex in the Middle East and contains high performance building envelope insulation, PV solar panels and low VOC paints and adhesives.

The Sustainable Furnishings Council announced that its GREEN leaders program will be available for continuing education credits to all LEED green associates and LEED accredited professionals, according to a report in Furniture Today. The program covers environmental issues surrounding the sourcing, manufacture and design of interior home products.

ITW Formex unveiled Formex CN on Wednesday, a halogen-free flame retardant electrical insulation. The company said that the product meets the requirements of RoHS, WEEE and REACH.

IEEE has started revisions to its secure authentication protocols contained in its IEEE 1815 Distributed Network Protocol standard, Fierce Smart Grid reported. The changes aim to improve security from cyber attacks to global smart grid deployments, and automated energy and water systems.
