ITT Corporation has a flexible, new PC320 process control meter and industrial control system for use with two- and three-wire sensor with a 4-20 mA, 0-1 volt and 0-5 volt output, reports Environmental Expert.
When applied to water management, the control can monitor the water level in storage tanks to avoid over-filling and over-draining of the tank, preventing the loss and waste of water as well as potential damage to the pump. Other common applications include controlling chemical dosing or the activation of an alarm when certain predetermined parameters have been exceeded.
The process controllers come pre-programmed for use with 12 different common sensor types and engineering units, but the instruments can be programmed by the user to monitor any type of custom sensor in any user-defined units. The process controller’s LCD display shows what type of sensor is being monitored, the data reading averaged over a user programmable time period, and the engineering units selected.
In related news, at the American Water Summit, held Nov 11-13 in Atlanta, water industry speakers discussed the demands for water and water services, Reuters said.
At the conference, the water industry discussed the high water demands of the oil and gas industry for drilling and hydraulic fracturing, and also for storing and transporting water used in energy extraction. As a result, the industries face pressure from environmental advocates, Reuters said.
The industry also discussed options for growth and the role that government incentives might play in developing technologies to modernize industry methods and conserve the resource, Reuters said.
