E-Mon Launches Smart Meter Range

Electric submetering firm E-Mon has released four new smart meter devices.

The new line of “D-Mon” products offers advanced energy information – including 38 metering parameters – and expanded communications functions, E-Mon says.

One of the four, the Class 3200 — has a 4-line LCD screen showing kWh, demand with peak date and time, real-time load in kW and other data.

The other three meters — the Class 3400, 5000 and Green Class Net Meter — have all the features of the 3200 but can also integrate with multiple building automation systems and billing packages, E-Mon says. This “dual-protocol” output allows simultaneous communication via ethernet and RS-485 connections.

The Green Class Net Meter is designed for applications requiring collection of net data. This meter provides the same features as the Class 5000 but it can also record kWh delivered, received and net kWh.

Models are available for 208, 480 and 600 volt applications with split-core current sensors from 100 Amps to 3200 Amps, E-Mon says.

A poll conducted in September shows that a majority of U.S. citizens now see the advantages of smart grid technology.

Over 50 percent of respondents to the Smart Grid Consumer Collaborative survey said that the adoption of such technology would save money, avoid wasting energy, provide a more reliable service and provide the U.S. with more energy independence.
