  1. The ability to measure sustainability has as much to do with the economic relationships as the metrics employed. Essentially, the sustainability movement is attempting to add an ecological dimension (and social) to the economy.   2. I work in the sustainable agriculture world and one of the biggest barriers to progress is the academic culture. Researchers do not share their results with farmers due to the need to publish their results first and the intense pressure to achieve academic results. Without major changes to this archaic ritual the snail’s pace of change will continue to hamper true progress.
