Renewables Briefing: SunPower, CEI, Sound Solar, Matinee, CHP in Cambridge, Perdue and Fibrowatt

Matinee Energy Inc. has broken ground on a 120MW solar power plant planned for Benson, Ariz. WEIS GmbH Consortium from Germany supplied project partners for elements of construction, solar components and financing.

Agriculture firm Perdue AgriBusiness and animal waste utility developer Fibrowatt LLC have proposed building a 10 MW biomass power facility in Salisbury, Md. Plans have been submitted to the Maryland state authorities for the plant that uses a combination of poultry litter, hen manure, wood chips and other locally sourced biomass to create 70,000 pounds per hour of steam for Perdue, reports Biomass Power & Thermal.

A number of water facilities in California have recently installed SunPower solar arrays. The Rancho California Water District in Riverside County, Calif., has installed two SunPower systems (pictured) together totaling almost 1.8 MW of power. Two other water facilities in Santa Clarita, Calif., and Galt, Calif., recently installed arrays of around 1 MW each.

The alternative energy division of Cupertino Electric Inc. has completed a rooftop- and parking lot canopy-based 480 kW solar photovoltaic system for the City of Morgan Hill, Calif. The city’s solar system was designed and built by CEI and was installed on canopies and the city’s Centennial Recreation Center roof.

Sound Solar Systems is installing a 70 kW solar photo voltaic array on the roof of the Greenwich Racquet Club in Cos Cob, Conn. The $408,000 project received almost $180,000 in funding from the State of Connecticut’s Clean Energy Finance and Investment Authority and about $122,000 through the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, reports the Stamford Advocate.

A combined heat and power facility is being planned in Cambridge, England, reports Cogeneration & On Site Power Production. The proposed £23 million CHP plant would provide power for university and council buildings, slashing carbon emissions by more that 8,000 metric tons annually, or about 57 percent.
