Environmental Industry Associations (EIA): The solid waste and recycling services industry trade group – comprising sub-groups the National Solid Wastes Management Association and the Waste Equipment Technology Association – selected Sharon H. Kneiss as its new president and CEO, to take over following the retirement later this year of Bruce Parker, who is stepping down after 30 years in the industry.
Carbon War Room: The organization announced that José Maria Figueres is its new president, taking over leadership from CEO Jigar Shah, founder of SunEdison. Figueres was the president of Costa Rica from 1994 to 1998. Since then he’s has served as CEO of the World Economic Forum and other civic and commercial positions, including serving as chairman of the Carbon War Room.
American Vanadium: The U.S. mining developers have appointed Ron Espell to the position of vice president, environmental. Espell joins the company from Barrick Gold where he was the corporate environmental director at Goldstrike mine and environmental director for the Barrick Australia Pacific and African regions.
Energy Points: The environmental sustainability analyst group has formed a sustainability council, including the following advisors:

Switch Lighting: The LED bulb manufacturer has hired five new executives with appointments effective immediately:
Daniel Macsherry, CFO; Gary Rosenfield, executive VP of marketing & national accounts; Bill Lenihan, executive VP of business development; David Becker, national sales director, retail & hospitality; Sam Stark, regional sales director, commercial & industrial; and Brett Sharenow, Switch’s former CFO and CSO, will transition to a new role as chief product officer and chief administrative officer.
FlexEnergy: The gas turbine manufacturer has appointed Jay Mitchell to the position of CEO. Mitchell most recently served as the company’s COO and president. Joseph Z. Perry, who has served as CEO since April 2009, will remain a FlexEnergy advisor and shareholder.
The Babcock & Wilcox Company (B&W): The clean energy technology and services company has appointed E. James Ferland as president and CEO. Ferland will succeed Brandon C. Bethards, who will retire at the company stockholders’ meeting in May. Ferland most recently served as president of the Americas division at Westinghouse Electric.
Greenlite Ventures: The carbon offsets marketing company has appointed Bryan G. Crane as vice president and a company director. Crane is the principal of BlueWater Advisory Group, and the managing director and principal of Jetoffsets.
