MiserWare Launches IT Power Monitoring Tool

Software company MiserWare has released IT power use monitoring program Granola Enterprise 5.0.

The program allows companies to measure the energy use of all of their laptops, PCs and data centers without installing any additional hardware, MiserWare says.

The program has been released under the “freemium” model, where the basic product is available at no cost but premium add-on applications need to be paid for. The basic program can show users their current power baseline, which may or may not need improvement.

Bolt-on, pay-for products include the ability to track and manage power use by system or group of systems; the ability to save energy by enforcing power-down-when-not-in-use policies; and the patent-pending capability to save energy when systems are in use while guaranteeing system performance, the company says.

In contrast to some other power management applications that simply turn off systems when they are not in active use, Granola Enterprise saves up to 35 percent more by reducing energy waste while systems are in use, the company says.

MiserWare’s Granola products have been listed on Time Magazine’s Top 20 Ways to Go Green, the company says.
