200 Companies to Use CloudApps to Cut Energy Consumption

Planet Positive has said it will use CloudApps’ platform to collect customer data, and by the end of the year its 200 clients – including Land Securities, Deloitte, Marks and Spencer, Sainsbury’s and integrated energy company Centrica – will use the platform to reduce their energy and water usage.

Planet Positive certifies sustainable businesses through a four-step process. It measures businesses’ carbon footprint to create a reduction plan. Businesses reduce energy consumption by committing to follow the plan. In step three, 10 percent of the fees a business pays to Planet Positive are invested into a community sustainability project. Finally, Planet Positive teaches business to communicate their certification through marketing.

Planet Positive customers will now use ClousApps software, built on Force.com, to capture data and create carbon footprint reports. The reports will chart businesses’ energy consumption against their sustainability targets to help them reduce energy use.

Within two years of partnering with Planet Positive, UK-based construction and engineering company Bowmer and Kirkland reduced its carbon emissions by more than 800 tons. Also during the same time period, between 2008 and 2010, the company saved $500,000 in energy bills and hired an additional 26 employees, Planet Positive says.
