Sears Canada will use CloudApps’ sustainability performance management software to capture carbon, energy and waste data from the retailer’s 122 department stores, 48 home stores and 11 outlet locations.
Sears Canada chose the CloudApps platform for its automated reporting and analytics as well as its ability to measure store and employee performance towards sustainability goals.
Site managers will be able to track overall and specific targets to see how their location is operating in real-time. The data will be used to encourage site managers to cut waste and energy use as well as help reduce energy costs.
The platform also will help Sears Canada automate its environmental performance reporting. Sears Canada, which used to manually compile its environmental footprint data, will be able to gather and share that information with the Carbon Disclosure Project in half the time, CloudApps said.
Sears is expected to see results from the cloud-based management system, including a reduction in energy use and costs, within 12 months of its implementation, CloudApps said.
Sears Canada has taken other steps to reduce its energy use. Last year, the company began replacing more than 130,000 incandescent spotlights with LED lighting in its department and home stores. The switch was expected to reduce the retailer’s electricity use by more than 16 million kWh per year
CloudApps has landed several customers in recent months. Sustainable business reviewer Planet Positive plans to roll out CloudApps’ energy management platform to its 200 clients, including Land Securities, Deloitte, Sainsbury’s, and Marks and Spencer, to reduce their energy and water usage. In April, international cosmetics company Lush tapped the CloudApps to help it more accurately measure its environmental footprint.
The CloudApps software is delivered by the Force.com cloud platform, run by Salesforce.com.
