The founder of the Energy Managers’ Association claims 95 percent of people who call themselves energy managers have no formal training in the profession. Lord Rupert Redesdale, who, in April, founded the Energy Managers’ Association in England, told Energy Live News that the industry lacks standards, and it is important for energy managers to receive formal training.

The Energy Managers’ Association will not conduct any courses directly but is linked to the Carbon Management Association, which will approve all carbon and energy management courses provided by other institutions.

In the United States, there are already some well-established energy manager groups, including the National Energy Management Institute (NEMI); the Association of Energy Engineers, which offers the Certified Energy Manager (CEM) program; as well as the Association of Energy Services Professionals (AESP).
