Renault has announced it will supply DHL France with a fleet of electric vehicles by 2015, as part of DHL’s GoGreen Program, which aims to reduce carbon emissions 30 percent by 2020. A total 50 vehicles have already been confirmed. The first four will be Kangoo Z.E. vans (pictured), to be delivered by the end of 2012.

Charging infrastructure supplier Better Place, which is developing an electric taxi program in the San Francisco Bay Area, has partnered with Coda Automotive and automotive engineering company FEV, AutoBlogGreen reports. The three companies are working together to convert six Coda electric cars with fixed batteries into switchable-battery cars, John Proctor, director of global communications at Better Place, told the blog.

Waste Management has opened a compressed natural gas fuel station at its Canal Winchester operations, part of a $13.5 million investment in its Central Ohio fleet, Columbus Business First reports. The newspaper says Waste Management spent $3.8 million on the fueling station, and $9.75 million on 30 CNG trucks, half of which are in operation. The rest will be operating by the end of 2012.

Ford Motor Company has demonstrated a prototype carbon fiber hood that the automaker says could help lower vehicles’ fuel consumption. The carbon fiber reinforced plastic Ford Focus hood weighs over 50 percent less than a standard steel version. Manufacturing time for an individual carbon fiber hood is fast enough to be employed on a production line, which is a step toward increased usage of lightweight materials in Ford vehicles, the company says.
