Media company Good Worldwide has become a Certified B Corporation, joining a group of more than 600 companies from 60 different industries that have committed to high standards of social and environmental performance, the company said.
Korean steelmaker Posco has earned ISO 50001 certification to become the first company in Asia’s steel industry, and second globally after Europe’s ThyssenKrupp, to achieve the standard. The company formed an energy management task force, and developed energy reduction program to meet the system standard. Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance conducted the audit, the company said.
The Du Retail Shop at Fujairah city center in the UAE is the country’s first LEED Platinum retail facility. Asset Management and Corporate Administrations designed and managed the project. Features of the building include motion controlled lighting, Energy Star-rated equipment, use of FSC-certified wood, and use of about one-third of regionally sourced materials in construction, AME Info said.
Professional services firm Arup has earned LEED Gold certification for its lower Manhattan office. The new 100,000-square-foot, four-story office has installed low-flow toilets, energy-efficient faucets, recycled-content furnishings and a green housekeeping program, World Interior Design Network said.
The Moscone Center in San Francisco has received LEED Gold certification to become the first convention center on the West Coast to earn the rating. The certification comes as a result of a $56 million renovation and more than 250 corrective actions on building systems, the San Francisco Travel Association said.
The Total Office’s flagship showroom in Dubai has been awarded a LEED Silver rating for its energy and water-saving. The showroom uses 30 percent less energy than a facility of the same size and uses technologies such as automatic dimming lights, LED lighting and Energy Star-rated appliances, Construction Week said.
Pythagoras Solar’s photovoltaic glass unit (PVGU) has met the UL 1703 standard and successfully gained ETL certification. The PVGU is the industry’s first solar window to provide energy efficiency, high solar power density and optimized daylighting, the solar windows maker said.
Motech Industries’ solar PV modules have passed the IEC 61701, Salt Mist Corrosion Testing of Photovoltaic Modules test with a severity level of 5. Intertek conducted the testing, which measures for performance in coastal areas with high humidity and high salt content, Motech said.
