Standards & Compliance Briefing: FTA Altoona, Energy Star, LEED

Proterra’s EcoRide BE35 battery-electric zero-emission commercial transit bus has become the first heavy-duty electric transit bus to pass the Federal Transit Administration’s Altoona bus testing. The testing process simulates 12 years of vehicle life and performance of transit buses. The EcoRide BE35 also tested at the highest fuel economy (22 mpg average) and lowest noise (57 dBA or 10 times lower) among full-size passenger buses, Proterra said.

Health benefits provider Highmark’s Center Street and Data Center buildings in Pennsylvania have earned EPA Energy Star certification for energy efficiency. The 612,000-square-foot Center Street building was renovated to LEED specifications and features energy-efficient HVAC systems and motion-detector lighting. The data center uses natural light, systems to manage power and water consumption and features an 80,000-gallon storm water collection tank for building cooling, the company said.

Brandywine Realty Trust has earned twelve new 2012 EPA Energy Star awards and eight re-certifications during the third quarter, giving the property management company a total of more than 80 Energy Star-rated buildings in its portfolio. The buildings are in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and Virginia, the company said.

Surmount Energy’s corporate office located in the CBD Belapur, Navi Mumbai has earned LEED Platinum for Commercial Interiors. The office is located in a 19-year-old public building above the CBD Belapur railway station and features water and energy conservations systems, as well as a showroom for architects and students, the company said.

Energy-efficiency and renewable energy products provider Delta Products Corporation has broken ground for new regional headquarters in Fremont, Calif., which is expected to become Fremont’s first net zero building. The building also is designed to meet LEED Platinum specifications. Wind-turbines and a large canopy in the lobby lined with BIPV panels of thin film solar cells and photovoltaic inverters will generate on-site power, World Interior Design Network said.

Supply chain management and logistics services consultants Graybar has a newly constructed facility in Tucson, Ariz., that has earned LEED Gold certification. The 55,000 square-foot facility features many of the technologies that the company distributes to its customers, including solar panels, energy-efficient lighting and EV charging stations. The facility also has low-flow plumbing fixtures, and was built using recycled materials and furnishings, Graybar said.
