The Colorado Convention Center is the first event and conference venue in the world to be certified to the new E2774-11, a sustainability standard introduced earlier this year to promote responsible environmental and social practices in the event industry. CCC achieved Level One certification with the ASTM Standard pertaining to the Evaluation and Selection of Venues for Environmentally Sustainable Meetings, Events, Trade Shows, and Conferences. E2774-11 is one of nine voluntary standards developed by the exhibitions and events industry to provide the specifications for producing more sustainable events, CCC said.

The IEC has published a new international standard: IEC 61400-1, which covers the design requirements for wind turbine gearboxes. The standard specifies that gearboxes must have a design lifetime similar to that of the wind turbine, or about 20 years. The standard has been prepared by IEC TC 88 in cooperation with ISO TC 60: Gears. This first edition constitutes a technical revision of ISO 81400-4, which it cancels and replaces, North American Windpower said.

The Capital Health Medical Center in Hopewell, N.J., has earned LEED Gold certification, becoming one of only 28 hospitals in the country to have achieved gold- or platinum-level recognition. Features of the medical center include water efficient landscaping, use of regional materials in construction, the preservation of open space, and the use of PVC-free and low-VOC finishes on all painted surfaces, the Hunterdon County Democrat said.

Wyandotte Elementary in Tippecanoe County, Ind., is the first LEED-certified school in north-central Indiana. Designed by the Scholer Corp., the school has a floor plan nearly identical to several others in the county, but it has earned the LEED Silver rating for its energy- and water-saving features, the Journal and Courier said.
