Kimberly-Clark Selects PE International for Sustainability Management

Kimberly-Clark has selected PE International to help manage its corporate-wide sustainability initiatives after identifying between $75 million and $100 million in potential savings.

PE International’s SoFi software will track, monitor and report on the air emissions and overall key performance indicator for Kimberly-Clark’s energy-saving programs from 105 manufacturing facilities and 50 administrative offices worldwide. It will collect data on all aspects of water consumption and energy use from air emissions to waste generation, landfill management, disposal and the costs associated with all of the expenditures.

With the SoFi software, all five of Kimberly-Clark’s business units will now have visibility into the processes allowing them to understand, predict and project energy usage for significant cost savings and generate comprehensive reports needed for internal and external stakeholders, the company says.

Dell Majure, air program leader at Kimberly-Clark, says the company selected the SoFi platform for its visualization capabilities and the ease with which it can handle complex calculations, projections and forecasting.

Kimberly-Clark already uses PE International’s GaBi software for product sustainability, the software company says.

Last June, Kimberly-Clark, the Coca-Cola Company, Dow Chemical and Duke Energy were among 24 major companies that agreed to develop a methodology to assign value to the world’s forests, freshwater and marine systems. The Corporate Eco Forum and The Nature Conservancy are leading the Valuing Natural Capital initiative, announced at the United Nations’ Rio+20 Earth Summit.

Also at the Rio+20 Earth Summit, Kimberly-Clark — which owns brands Kleenex and Huggies — committed to cut the amount of wood fiber it uses from natural forests by 50 percent by 2025.
