California Air Resources Board: The state board has appointed Richard Corey as CARB’s executive officer. Prior to this appointment, Corey served as deputy executive officer overseeing the Stationary Source Division.
Fuel Freedom Foundation: John Hofmeister, former Shell Oil president and CEO of Citizens for Affordable Energy, has joined the nonprofit’s advisory board. Fuel Freedom Foundation advocates for alternative transportation fuels and aims to remove barriers so that natural gas, methanol, ethanol and electricity can compete with gasoline at the pump and dealership.
Terra Tech: The sustainable agricultural products company has appointed Dr. Ronald Hart to its advisory board. Hart is the former chief scientist and executive director of the FDA’s National Center for Toxicology Research and was the first person in the history of the FDA to be named distinguished scientist in residence.
NASA: Scientist James E. Hansen has retired after a 46-year career at the space agency’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies in Manhattan, The New York Times reports. The newspaper says the “climate maverick,” who in 1988 testified before a Congressional committee that human-induced global warming had begun, plans to focus on political and legal efforts to halt greenhouse gas emissions.
