Semco Intros Active Chilled Beams with Reduced Pump, Fan Energy

chilled beamHVAC equipment company Semco introduced an IQHC (high capacity) series of active chilled beams specifically designed for the loads of North American commercial building applications at hospitals, office buildings, and schools.

The IQHC features up to a 25-percent and 50-percent reduction in pump and fan horsepower respectively, versus conventional chilled water loop or rooftop forced air HVAC system methods, according to the company.

Rather than using factory-set airflow nozzles that require replacement or complicated pressure balance calibrations, Semco’s design features a 12-slot nozzle that’s field-adjustable with two hand-operated levers. The integral flow pattern control can also be angled as much as 45-degrees to address room hotspots. The nozzle adjustment additionally provides a unilateral, disproportional or equal air volume from each side.

The beams can be installed in a ceiling grid or as a pendant and are designed to operate with any dedicated outdoor air system.
